What is DURIUS?


The DURIUS is a mount for attaching a CPU water cooling cooler to NVIDIA's RTX30XX, 40XX series.
Machined from solid aluminum, the entire mount functions as a large VRAM heatsink.

DURIUS is available in three models: T-730 for RTX3060Ti-RTX3070Ti, T-740 for RTX4070-RTX4080, and T-830 for RTX3080-RTX3090 and RTX4090.

Benefits of Using DURIUS

  1. Directly expels the heat generated by the GPU outside the case, reducing the temperature rise of surrounding components.

  2. Cools the GPU core with an AIO cooler, contributing to noise reduction under high load, and dissipates VRAM heat effectively.

  3. Allows larger high-performance GPUs to fit into two-slot, short form factor cases.

With the stock air cooler, the heat output of up to 450W on an RTX4090 is spread throughout the case, raising the temperature of surrounding parts and affecting both performance and longevity.

Using DURIUS can significantly lower the temperatures of components like the CPU, M.2 SSD, and power supply unit. Especially if the power supply draws air from within the case, the temperature of the power supply can drop by 30°C or more before and after DURIUS is installed (based on in-house testing).

The capacitors used extensively on motherboards and power supplies have a characteristic where their lifespan is halved with every 10°C increase in component temperature.
A capacitor with an expected lifespan of 2000 hours at 40°C may only last 250 hours at 70°C...

Powerful VRAM Cooling

Since the introduction of GDDR6X on the RTX3080, VRAM can exceed 100°C under high load, a significant heat source unlike GDDR6.
Fixing the AIO head to the GPU core is simple, but cooling the GDDR6X VRAM hidden beneath the AIO head requires ingenuity.

Convert Large High-Performance GPUs to 2 Slots

With the current trend of compact PC cases, it's not uncommon to encounter restrictions on GPU thickness and length.
High-performance GPUs often come with large stock coolers, but cooling performance may be insufficient on models with smaller coolers.

For those who have seen a graphics card in person, you know that when the massive cooler is removed, the actual board is quite short and thin. By replacing the cooler with DURIUS and an AIO cooler of the appropriate size for the case, a large GPU can be reduced to ITX size* and a thickness of two slots, significantly expanding options for custom PC builds.

Installation Instructions

  1. DURIUS and the AIO cooler cool the GPU core and VRAM on the graphics card.
    However, other heat-generating components also exist on the board, such as the MOSFET, which is part of the power circuit and approximately 4mm square. Due to its small size and high heat generation, attaching a heatsink is recommended for sufficient heat dissipation.

  3. There are two GPU core temperatures: "core temperature" and "hot spot temperature." If insufficient thermal paste is applied when attaching the AIO head, it may not spread evenly across the core, creating areas of high temperature, known as "hot spots," which can lower performance. Apply enough thermal paste to cover the core entirely.

    DURIUS has screw holes for mounting a fan on the heatsink.
    Prepare fans and screws of appropriate sizes based on the layout of the graphics card being mounted. Standard M3x0.5 screws available at hardware stores are compatible, with screws approximately 5mm longer than the fan thickness recommended.

  5. Installing DURIUS requires additional control for the AIO pump, radiator fans, and fans attached to DURIUS.
    Although the default fan connector on the graphics card is recommended, if connecting to the motherboard, it may not provide adequate cooling as motherboard-controlled fans typically respond to CPU or onboard temperature sensors, not GPU temperature. Therefore, if the graphics card is under high load while the CPU is not, cooling may be insufficient. If possible, configure the motherboard to use a GPU sensor for fan control or adjust the fan speed to maintain a constant minimum level. Using third-party software like "FanControl" to set GPU and VRAM temperatures as control sources is also a smart option.
